Talking to Shepard Custom Cabinets is the first step. They will help you decide what you want from your custom cabinets. A great place to start, is to send us the dimensions of your rooms, either through sketches or architectural blueprints. Once we have determined the scope of the work required, we can give you a cost estimate. This will begin the planning phase, and we can assist you with making the final decisions on what you want.
B. Design Details & Consultation
After doing our initial due diligence and providing an estimate to you, we will begin the design and consultation phase. We will communicate with you via email and phone, and we will need to visit the site in order to take final measurements. This is the stage where we finalize the design plans, create an estimated time of completion, and create a comprehensive list of the necessary supplies. At the end of this phase we will know the cost of the project.
C. Exact Drawings and Down Payment
During this step we will produce a payment schedule and give you ample notice for any upcoming payments. The payment schedule coincides with the subsequent phases of the project, the final plans, cabinet fabrication, and the final building.
After the planning phase is completed, your project will be added to our schedule once the down payment has been paid. Once the planning phase is complete, we will have drawings that include all necessary measurements and materials. One of the main reasons we have opted for these processes is due to the challenges that arise from changes once the fabrication starts. Once you give us your instructions, we will fabricate your cabinets.
D. Building the Cabinets and Onsite Installation
This is where all the pieces fall together. We start building and crafting your cabinets at our location in Anaheim. After the fabrication phase is complete, we will transport everything onto your property for final installation. When the entire project is completed, the final deposit is due. This usually takes between 4 and 8 weeks. Because custom cabinets are made to order, the turnaround time on your project will depend on various factors such as the style of cabinets, how many pieces, and the labor time for each unique piece.
Different Styles of Cabinet Doors
Selecting the proper cabinet door is important because it is the most visible part of your cabinet face. When choosing a cabinet door there are two classifications that will affect how your cabinet looks overall, the way that the door style, and how the door is attached to the cabinet frame. Each will have a large impact on the character of your cabinet.
Cabinet Door Attachments
Full-overlay cabinet doors completely cover the cabinet’s front and provide more storage space. This one-continuous low profile surface is very popular today because the cabinet frame is covered in 100 percent.
Cabinets with inset doors have the door set into the frame, sitting fully flush when closed. At times you will see the hinges attached to the outside, and this requires precise work during the fabrication.
Partial overlay cabinets expose more of the cabinet frame with approximately 1″ to 2″.
The Differences in Cabinet Door Styles
The recessed panel door makes it look like the center panel is depressed into the cabinet, give it a sleek streamlined feel. This design is popular in contemporary cabinets and offers many design options.
Frameless glass front cabinets have a single glass pane, but no dividing mullions.
Mullion frame doors have vertical and horizonal bars that breakdown the face of the cabinet into sections. The glass inserts in the panes and sections allow you to see the interior of each cabinet.
Cabinets with raised panel doors have a lifted central panel with a recessed border around it. Raised panel doors are a very popular and can be seen on classic to current day cabinets.
The slab cabinet door, or flat-panel door, is simply a single slab of lumber and is totally flat.
Handcrafted bath cabinets and custom vanities
A refined tidy bathroom can really help improve your quality of life, and by adding custom bath cabinetry you can really upgrade the aesthetics and add to the storage space. While you are brainstorming the design for your custom vanities and cabinets, you should write a list of all your storage needs. Do you need makeup storage built into your vanity? Are you a hoarder of bathroom items and would you like to have as much storage as possible? Do you need cabinet space to store your towels? After you have identified your needs, an expert cabinet maker at Shepard Custom Cabinets will help you design the perfect design.
You can use a custom-made vanity to fully use your space, renovate your bathroom, and find a place for all your stuff! By hand making creative storage solutions for your bathroom cabinets and vanities, you can improve the aesthetics and functionality of your bathroom. A retreat you will feel serene and relaxed after a long hectic day.
Handcrafted Custom Media Centers
We also build custom cabinets. One of the most popular pieces of furniture that we build at Shepard Custom Cabinets are custom media centers, also known as entertainment centers. An entertainment center typically houses your television, sound systems, video game consoles, and related paraphernalia. Many of our customers find that their television is an essential piece of your daily life. This is why they are able to get a custom-built entertainment centre.
Often ready to assemble (RTA) media centers are made from cheaper materials, such as particle board, and don’t stand the test of time. At Shepard Custom Cabinets we only use the best quality hard wood to build your custom media center, and this will make your media center look fantastic today, as well as stay looking great years into the future. Having an endless tangle of wires featured in the center of your living room can be distraction and an eyesore, so we can help you build your cabinets to accommodate them, and help you conceal that clutter.
Stains and Finishes
You can add character to your cabinet doors by choosing a finish. To give the cabinet a desired characteristic, such as enhanced protection or alterations to its color or texture, a finish is applied to it.
Waterborne finishes are used to add protection against scratches and damage, and it is non toxic to the environment. Waterborne finishes are fast drying and can mirror the look of many other stains and finishes. Waterborne finishes are great if you like the look of grain patterns on your wood and want to change its color.
Glaze finishes can add texture and color to your cabinets’ surfaces. They can be applied directly on top of stained or painted cabinets. If you like a glossy look, glazing your cabinets will give it a shine, as well as add damage and moisture protection. Painting your cabinets will completely hide the wood grains, and you can pretty much change it any color that you want. One popular option is to paint your cabinets a flat white color. There are many options, and Shepard Custom Cabinets’ expert craftsmen are available to help you. Give us a call today.
